WATCH THIS: OUR CHRISTIAN HERITAGE IN THE WHITE HOUSE

The Knights of Columbus pointed out the unique relationship between God and many of America’s past commanders in chief in a  television commercial which aired throughout the Presidents Day weekend,

The 60-second spot has run in previous years; however, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson explained why his organization believes the message this ad contains is still relevant.

“The idea that our rights come from God and that religion has a role to play in our nation’s public life is not partisan or sectarian,” he said, “it is quintessentially American. Presidents Day is an excellent opportunity to remind Americans that God is — and has always been — foundational to this country and to our system of ordered liberty.”

Using their own quotes, the Catholic-rooted civic group demonstrates how several past presidents relied on God’s hand to lead theirs.

The commercial goes as far back as America’s founding with quotes by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

In his farewell address, the nation’s first president stated: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.”

“Can the liberties of a nation be secure,” Jefferson wondered, “when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are of the gift of God?”

Among the more modern presidents quoted is Ronald Reagan, who said in 1983: “Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.”

The bipartisan ad also includes the words of Democrat icons like Franklin D. Roosevelt, who declared America has “placed its destiny in the hands” of its citizens and “its faith in freedom under the guidance of God.”
