SHOULD YOU TURN YOUR LIGHT ON AT HALLOWEEN?

by Riley Stephenson

Whether or not to participate in Halloween activities has been a big debate among the members of the Body of Christ. As believers, we have nothing to fear when the Holy Spirit is our guide. What does He have to say about this issue?

The Bible tells us not to “copy the behavior and customs of this world” (Romans 12:2, New Living Translation). But this verse should not be an excuse for us to shut the door on the world. We also need to let our light shine, as my family and I learned a long time ago—especially on the darkest day of the year!

For years my wife, Kim, and I would not turn on our porch light at Halloween. When persistent trick-or-treaters knocked on our door anyway, our family ignored them. We would not let our girls carve pumpkins or color Halloween artwork at school or go trick-or-treating.

Then one year the Lord spoke this scripture to our family: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16, New King James Version). We realized that God wanted us to reach out to our neighbors on Halloween night. So we changed our MO! We bought good candy, not the cheap stuff—you know, the kind that has bubble gum in it that loses its flavor as soon as you put it in your mouth. We got chocolate bars! And we began to minister the love of God to those who were participating in Halloween. We handed out candy to our neighborhood kids, gave them tracts, and asked them if we could pray with them about anything.

Halloween is a great time for us to get to know our neighbors. Streets are packed with parents and children. Paul said it this way: “When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings” (1 Corinthians 9:22–23, NLT).

As Christians, we walk every day in the burden-removing, yoke-destroying power of God (see Isaiah 10:27). If we close our door on our neighbors at Halloween, if we “turn our lights off,” we miss a big opportunity to remove burdens and destroy yokes from other people’s lives.

My family’s outreach began with just us. Later we started taking friends out with us onto the streets in our community to share the love of Christ at Halloween, and over time the ministry grew.

One church in Athens, Ohio, found out about what we were doing and invited me and my ministry team to come minister at the nation’s largest Halloween block party, which takes place in their city every year. This block party draws about 80,000 college-age kids, who come every year to drink and party on Halloween night. In 2009 we started taking teams to the event to share the gospel with young people, and since then thousands have received Jesus as Lord and Savior on the darkest day of the year.

Another church, this one in Roscoe, Illinois, whose pastor is a friend of mine, uses Halloween as their biggest outreach of the year. They bring carnival rides in and provide free popcorn, hot dogs and cotton candy. They clear out their sanctuary and set up games for the kids, and then they present a gospel skit. Every year at least 5,000 people attend this event. A lot of people in the community don’t even offer candy for trick-or-treating—they send people to my friend’s church instead!

I’m not saying that we should dress up as the devil and participate in dark activities. We should dress normally when we minister on Halloween night. When people see us loving, rather than judging the people who go to haunted houses or go trick-or-treating, the Bible says they will begin to glorify the heavenly Father. We should be a light in the darkness.

The Bible says that “God is love” (1 John 4:8). When we begin to look like love, talk like love and act like love, God who is love will manifest Himself through us, spreading His light to a lost and dying world. I pray that this Halloween you will open up your door and turn on your light to harvest souls for God’s kingdom.

WIKILEAKS: CNN FEEDING INFORMATION TO CLINTON CAMPAIGN

by BOB ESCHLIMAN
A source within CNN tipped off the Clinton campaign to the results of a poll a full day before they were reported to the public. (Reuters photo)
You don't need to watch more than a few minutes of CNN lately to get the sense that the "Clinton News Network" is in the tank for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

But now we have rock-solid proof. According to one of the latest emails released by WikiLeaks, a "source" within CNN was feeding information about its polling to the Clinton campaign before the information was being made public.

In a Feb. 17, 2015, email to several members of the Clinton camp's inner circle, including campaign manager Robby Mook, campaign chairman John Podesta and then-White House Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri, campaign consultant Joel Benenson wrote:

From a CNN source of mine

To: Joel Benenson

Subject: Heads up - between us

Hey Joel - Hope all is great with you. I think you are going to enjoy a poll we have releasing tomorrow morning at 6:00 am ET that asks about 2016ers and whether they are perceived as candidates of the past or candidates of the future.

Some interesting findings. . .

The email was later shared with additional staff members by Clinton's longtime right-hand woman, Huma Abedin, along with a link to the CNN article discussing the poll. The email would indicate the Clinton camp knew about the poll a full day before it was published.

The CNN source isn't identified.

PRESIDENT OBAMA THREATENS TO VETO DEFENSE BILL THAT PROTECTS RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

by ROGER SEVERINO/HERITAGE FOUNDATION

On D-Day, Franklin Roosevelt famously asked a country of many faiths to pray that God protect our troops as they "struggle to preserve our republic, our religion and our civilization" against tyranny.

Given our military's tradition of defending religious liberty from attack, it is disappointing to see President Barack Obama threaten to veto the military's main authorization bill if it contains protections for religious freedom.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is an annual bill that sets policies and budgets for our nation's fighting forces and is currently being negotiated by both houses of Congress in conference before a final vote.

Included in the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act is an amendment offered by Rep. Steve Russell, R-Okla., that applies decades-old religious exemptions from Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (1964) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) to federal grants and contracts.

The Russell Amendment is sound policy that will prevent the administration from stripping contracts and grants from faith-based social service providers whose internal staffing policies reflect their faith.

Jewish day schools and Catholic adoption centers, for example, are not liable under Title VII for being authentically Jewish or Catholic, and their staffing policies shouldn't disqualify them from federal grants and contracts either.

But Obama's veto threat is actually the strongest proof of why the Russell Amendment is needed. It shows that the president wants absolute freedom to discriminate against religious social service providers that interact with the government—all because many religious organizations won't endorse the LGBT cause. Congress should say no to the president's blatant attack on religious diversity.

Undermining Religious Liberty

For decades, the left has attempted to raise sexual orientation and gender identity to special protected status through Congress. Seeing little success using the democratic process, the Obama administration has instead turned to issuing various edicts that misinterpret existing civil rights protections to include sexual orientation and gender identity.

On July 21, 2014, Obama issued an executive order that unilaterally elevated sexual orientation and gender identity to special status for purposes of federal contracts.

As our colleague Ryan T. Anderson pointed out at the time, the order "disregards the consciences and liberties of people of goodwill who happen not to share the government's opinions about issues of sexuality. All Americans should be free to contract with the government without penalty because of their reasonable beliefs about morally contentious issues."

The executive order left in place the Title VII religious staffing exemption, and the Russell Amendment merely reaffirms this protection while clarifying that religious organizations have a right to employ people committed to authentically living in accordance with their faith tenets. In short, religious organizations are free to be religious organizations.

But Obama would interpret existing religious protections narrowly in order to make religious groups bend to the LGBT agenda. As seen in the administration's educationand health care mandates on gender identity, in practice, this means requiring employee bathrooms and showers meant for women be opened to biological men who self-identify as female regardless of people's religious beliefs on the matter. The administration's proven lack of respect for religious freedom when it comes to sexual orientation and gender identity policies is more than enough reason to keep the Russell Amendment.

Reaffirming Long-Standing Policy Is Apparently Unacceptable

Despite the Russell Amendment's straightforwardness and precedent, 42 Senate Democrats have written to the Senate Armed Services Committee asking that the Russell Amendment be stripped from final National Defense Authorization Act language during conference negotiations.

The letter states that prospective employees should not be "disqualified from a taxpayer-funded job based on an individual's religions." Except that's not how federal contracts typically work. Existing organizations bid for contracts to produce services or products based on their ability to deliver them, not to provide somebody "a taxpayer-funded job."

The programs at issue are designed to help the needy in the most effective and efficient way possible, and faith-based organizations have proven that they are often the very best at providing these social services precisely because of their faith-based character.

But moreover, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act already specifically protects religious organizations' ability to hire based on religion, so the burden is on the objectors to the Russell Amendment to prove why a system that has been affirmed by the Supreme Court and has served religious pluralism well for decades should now be stripped away when it comes to federal contracts.

Will Congress Hold the Line?

The Russell Amendment was included in the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act and passed by a comfortable margin (277 to 147) because it reflects the best of our traditions without taking away anything from anyone.

Congress should not let the president's veto threat get in the way of passing sound policy, and the Russell Amendment is just that—a commonsense continuation of policy that has served our diverse society well since 1964.

THE ATHEIST DELUSION

Having to prove the existence of God to an atheist is like having to prove the existence of the sun, at noon on a clear day. Yet millions are embracing the foolishness of atheism. “The Atheist Delusion” pulls back the curtain and reveals what is going on in the mind of those who deny the obvious. It introduces you to a number of atheists who you will follow as they go where the evidence leads, find a roadblock, and enter into a place of honesty that is rarely seen on film.

BIBLES BANNED! VA REMOVES GOOD BOOK FROM CLINIC

By Todd Starnes

A Bible was removed from the waiting room of a Chillicothe Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Athens, Ohio after a veteran complained.

“Our government is secular, and must remain secular,” the unidentified veteran wrote.

Mikey Weinstein, the founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, fired off a letter to the medical center on behalf of the veteran – alleging that the presence of the Bible inside a government facility is a violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Weinstein, a fussy little man with a strong aversion to our Lord, said the Bible’s placement in the waiting room was “illicit and unconstitutional.”

In other words, “Good Housekeeping” is fine, but the Good Book is not.

The panicked VA staff scoured the entire building to ensure there were no other Bibles lurking about – waiting to spontaneously convert people. They found one.

“The Athens CBOC is unsure how this came into the clinic but it has been removed,” Associate Chief Adam Jackson wrote to Weinstein.

Ron Crews, the executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, called the VA’s decision to ban the Bible “absolutely ridiculous.”

“There is nothing wrong with a Bible being left in the waiting room along with other reading materials,” Crews told me. “If someone doesn’t want to look at the Bible, they don’t have to look at it. But it can be there for someone who may want to look at it and may find it helpful in a time of crisis.”

That’s a good point. Let’s say you’re in the waiting room dealing with a medical crisis. Would you find greater comfort in the Bible or a back issue of “People”?

Jackson seemed genuinely shocked that a Bible had somehow made its way inside the building.

“We routinely have environment of care rounding teams that look for such material,” he wrote to Weinstein.

A goon squad tasked with cleansing the building of Christianity? Now, that’s mighty creepy, folks.

Now we know why the VA can’t provide adequate medical care to our veterans – they’re too busy rounding up contraband Bibles.

GA GOVERNOR DEMANDS PASTOR HAND OVER HIS SERMONS & HIS BIBLE

by J.P. DUFFY AND ALICE CHAO

Family Research Council (FRC) today expressed outrage after the State of Georgia issued a legal demand that Dr. Eric Walsh, a lay pastor, hand over his sermons, sermon notes and all pastoral documentation, including his Bible. FRC launched a petition today at frc.org/walsh that calls on Governor Deal to "correct this egregious over-reach of the state into church affairs."

"This demand for Dr. Eric Walsh's sermons, sermons notes and ministerial documentation is an alarming display of government intrusion into the sanctity of the church, pastor's study and pulpit," said Tony Perkins, Family Research Council president and himself an ordained pastor. "This is something that I would have expected to see in a communist country, not America. The pulpit is to be governed only by the Word of God. Government scrutiny of speech in the pulpit is unconstitutional and unconscionable. Family Research Council stands with Dr. Walsh, and any other pastor who is targeted by the government because of what is said in the pulpit. We call on Gov. Deal to correct this egregious over-reach of the state into church affairs."

Travis Weber, director of FRC's Center for Religious Liberty, joins Dr. Eric Walsh at a press conference later today at the Georgia State Capitol, along with Walsh's attorneys at First Liberty Institute and an array of pastors and ministry leaders calling for the State of Georgia to cease its hostility toward people of faith.

"We've recently seen the former mayor of Houston issue subpoenas against pastors in Houston, Texas, seeking their sermons," said Weber. "This action against Dr. Walsh is another unjust assault on people of faith, including the pulpit itself. This cannot go unchallenged. We support Dr. Walsh in his resistance, and call upon the Georgia government to act according to the law and traditions of our country, which respect people of faith and the autonomy of the church. What they are doing is the opposite of religious freedom and everything that it means to be an American," concluded Weber.

Dr. Eric Walsh was one of the nation's leading health administrators until being fired in 2014 by the Georgia Department of Public Health. A lay minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Walsh was fired after Georgia officials learned of his faith. Documents released by First Liberty include emails showing that Georgia officials assigned employees to examine his sermons on YouTube—sermons dealing with common Christian themes including creation, compassion, spiritual growth, the family and Christian living. He was fired after this examination.

Walsh has filed a federal lawsuit against Georgia, alleging unlawful religious discrimination. Now, as part of that lawsuit, the state of Georgia—which ironically claims it did not fire Walsh for religious reasons—is demanding he hand over religious documents: his most intimate, private sermon notes, along with sermons themselves.

DONALD TRUMP REACHES OUT TO STRUGGLING MILLENNIAL

by BOB ESCHLIMAN
During a speech Thursday night, Donald Trump reached out to millennials with his plan to deal with college loan debt. (Reuters photo)

During a speech Thursday evening in Columbus, Ohio, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took a moment to address the hardship faced by millions of struggling Americans between the ages of 18 and 25—otherwise known as "millennials."

The GOP nominee also broadened his policy proposal for making college more affordable for Americans. He said:

Under President Obama and Hillary Clinton, the national debt has almost doubled; $20 trillion national debt is a weight around the future of every young person in this country. It would require $120,000 from every millennial in the country to pay off.

The new debt added under Obama and Clinton would have been enough to pay off all the outstanding student loans in the United States six times over. Yet not one penny of that new debt has gone to lowering your tuition.

The share of 16- to 28-year-olds not in the labor force has increased to 45 percent during the Obama administration. In a Trump administration, we will work every day to make America great again for millennials.

First, we will lower the cost of college and solve the student loan crisis. Tuition at public four-year institutions was 40 percent higher in the last school year than it was 10 years ago.

In all, Americans owe $1.3 trillion on their student loans—more than auto loans, credit card debt or home equity loans nationwide.

Students should not be asked to pay more on their loans than they can afford, and the debt should not be an albatross around their necks for the rest of their lives. That is why under my student loan program, we would cap repayment to an affordable portion of a borrower's income—12.5%. And if borrowers work hard and make their full payments for 15 years, we will let them get on with their lives.

That's the nature of the deal we give many public employees today. Every American deserves the same deal, so we will equalize treatment so everyone can start saving for their families and retirement by the time they are 15 years out of college.

In addition, I will take steps to push colleges to cut the skyrocketing cost of tuition. If the federal government is going to subsidize student loans, it has a right to expect that colleges work hard to control costs and invest their resources in their students.

If colleges refuse to take this responsibility seriously, they will be held accountable—including by reconsidering whether those with huge endowments deserve to keep those endowments tax-exempt. Some schools are paying more to hedge funds and private equity managers than they are spending on tuition assistance—while taxpayers are guaranteeing hundreds of billions of dollars of student loans to pay for rising tuition.

We want universities to spend their endowments on their students, not themselves. They need to use that money to cut the college debt and college tuition. Much of the skyrocketing cost of college education is due to the tremendous bloat in college administrators and bureaucrats. According to the Department of Education, the number of college administrators is up more than 60 percent since 1993—10 times the increase in tenured faculty positions.

Federal regulations are responsible for much of this administrative bloat. Vanderbilt University estimated that it spends $150 million per year—11 percent of the university's budget—to comply with government regulations. As president, I will immediately take steps to drive down college costs by reducing the unnecessary costs of compliance with federal regulations so that colleges can pass on the savings to students in the form of lower tuition.

I will also make it a priority to protect students' rights to free speech on campus. In the past few decades, political correctness has transformed our institutions of higher education from ones that fostered spirited debate, to a place of extreme censorship where students are silenced. We will end the political correctness, and foster free and respectful dialogue.

We also have to recognize that traditional four-year degree programs are not the only path to a good job and a good career. We should support schools that allow people to learn skills and practice a trade so young people can have access to the education that's right for them. And we must hold all schools equally accountable for their performance. I will make sure that students have the information they need about all of their options before starting school, and for repaying their student loans upon leaving school.

There is a lot of room for improvement in this regard. Currently, students navigate 16 complex repayment plans, eight forgiveness programs, and 32 deferment and forbearance options—each of these programs has their own nuances and qualifications. I will simplify this confusing maze into a single Income-Based Repayment Program, similar to those that have proved so popular in recent years.

We also have to make sure that those who have graduated college and those who are soon to graduate can find a good job to start a good career when they do.

Many mothers across this country are worried their kids won't find jobs, and they are right to be worried. One of the biggest threats is outsourcing—jobs for college-educated kids are being sent to other countries. At the same time, companies are importing low-wage workers on H-1B visas to take jobs from young college-trained Americans.

We will protect these jobs for Americans.

My economic plan—including tax, trade regulatory and energy reforms—will create 25 million new jobs and allow the private sector to grow at 4 percent per year. This includes reforms to protect and expand the sharing economy—startups like Uber—that have managed to provide great services to consumers and create lots of jobs in the process.

Finally, and most importantly, the foundation for a new prosperity will be a rededication to the constitutional rule of law.

A vote for me is a vote for change, and a vote for me is really a vote for you. Together, we are going to Make America Great Again.

MIKE PENCE: "NOW IS THE TIME FOR ACTION"

by BOB ESCHLIMAN
Gov. Mike Pence Speaking to Evangelicals At Liberty University
Republican vice presidential nominee Indiana Gov. Mike Pence spoke Wednesday at Liberty University Convocation, urging them to "come off the sidelines" at this critical time in our nation's history.

"Men and women of faith cannot stand idly by in this great national debate," he said, then turning to words written by his friend and mentor, the late Chuck Coulson. "As believers, we are commanded to be active participants in the governance of our nation ... Christians must not adopt the 'simply passing through' mindset when it comes to politics.

"So, how do we do that? Well, thankfully, the Good Book has a lot to say about how we balance the pulpit with politics. First and foremost, we are called to pray for our nation's leaders—even those we disagree with—and we encourage you to do that, each and every day, particularly in the next four weeks.

"As Christians, we are also called to respect the governing authorities that are placed over us, and we should do that—respect the institutions of our governance. But nowhere does it teach in the Bible that we are to sit on the sidelines of history, and this is no time for the people of faith to sit on the sidelines."

Pence then quoted from Ronald Reagan's "Evil Empire" speech and said it was "as relevant today as it was then, even more so." Pointing to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's speech calling millions of Americans part of a "basket of deplorables," he called on his running mate's opponent to denounce the "Catholic Emails" communications by her staff members.

He then turned his attention back to the Liberty University students, telling them "this is a time for faith, a time for action." He then called them to put their faith in action.

"When the annals of this time of American history are written, the question will be, 'Where were you?'" he said. "'Where were we in the great battle for life and liberty and freedom in America? What did you do?' Not, 'What did you think?' What did we do—not what did we think—that got us on the right side of history?

"Men and women of faith, this is a time for action, not essays, and we must roll up our sleeves and be prepared to fight every day for what we believe in. Shortcomings are no excuse for inaction, if we were perfect, we wouldn't need Jesus. But we are far from perfect. We do need Him. But God's love eclipses our failings and, as always, renewed the strength of so many in this nation."

Pence then addressed the many important issues at stake in the 2016 election. He said the only way to solve them is for people of faith to be engaged, and then he challenged the students to "take ownership" of their future.

"Take ownership of this moment and understand that there is no place for believers on the sidelines in a time like this," he said. "We are at a testing point. We are at a time in the life of our nation when those who cherish faith, those who cherish freedom, those who cherish the sanctity of life, and all of the liberties enshrined in our Constitution, must be wary of being sidelined now.

"Those with a different agenda would hope that apathy would reign supreme on Election Day."

HILLARY CLINTON'S ACTIONS AS SECRETARY OF STATE ENDANGERED AMERICANS

by BOB ESCHLIMAN
Hillary Clinton ignored federal laws and put Americans' lives in danger, Trump campaign policy director Stephen Miller wrote. (Reuters photo)
Stephen Miller, the national policy director for Donald Trump's presidential campaign, issued a memo to "interested parties" outlining how Hillary Clinton ignored federal law, which in turn put the lives of Americans in danger.

The issue stems from a law that requires the secretary of state to suspend the issuance of visas to citizens of countries that refuse to take back its citizens that may have committed crimes while in the U.S. Clinton effectively ignored the law, nor did she take any action as the nation's top diplomat to encourage those nations to take back their citizens.

Miller suggested the priorities of Clinton Foundation donors took precedence in the Hillary Clinton-run State Department:

While secretary of state, Hillary Clinton ignored federal law and allowed thousands of convicted criminal illegal immigrants to be released into our communities.

Despite the fact that federal law commands the secretary of state "to discontinue granting immigrant visas or non-immigrant visas, or both, to citizens, subjects, nationals and residents" to any country that refuses to take back its citizens until that nation complies, Hillary Clinton never invoked the law and instead allowed thousands of criminal aliens to be released into our communities. Nor did she take any forceful diplomatic action to resolve the problem and protect American lives.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) data provided to Congress, in FY2010 alone, Secretary Clinton allowed over 4,900 illegal immigrants to be released of which 3,882 are convicted criminals.

Americans have been victimized by Hillary Clinton's willingness to ignore federal law and failure to take diplomatic action. Last year, 25-year-old Casey Chadwick was murdered by a criminal illegal alien with a prior attempted murder conviction, who should have been deported in 2012 when Clinton was secretary of state. After his home country repeatedly refused to take their criminal back, Clinton did nothing. According to a memo from the DHS Office of Inspector General, immigration enforcement officials "believed that the Department of State would not intervene to encourage a foreign country to accept a violent offender" like Chadwick's killer.

Speaking on Hillary Clinton's refusal to enforce our laws at the second presidential debate in in St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. Donald J. Trump said, "Let me tell you, I'm going to force them right back into their country. They are murderers and some very bad people."

It is possible that the Clinton Foundation's interests were prioritized over public safety. Since 2001, the Clinton Foundation has raised nearly $2 billion in donations—a third of donors giving more than $1 million are foreign governments or foreign entities and more than half of donations over $5 million come from foreign donors. Many of these donors (and their families) seek access to the United States and travel here for business and pleasure; invoking diplomatic action would have likely created conflict between Hillary Clinton and her donors and jeopardized donations.

She also failed to take action against Laos, even though the matter came before her department, and a national from the country, also not returned home, just shot two correctional officers.

Also in FY2010, instead of forcing Algeria to take back their nationals, Hillary Clinton simply allowed 11 Algerian illegal immigrants (six of whom are convicted criminals) to be released into U.S. communities. That same year, the Clinton Foundation received a $500,000 donation from the Algerian government, and lobbyists representing the country met with 12 State Department officials, including top political appointees.

China is one of the worst offenders when it comes to refusing to repatriate their nationals. In FY2010 alone, China refused to take back 374 Chinese illegal immigrants, 116 of whom are convicted criminals. The Clinton Foundation received a $2 million pledge from Rilin Enterprises, an infrastructure and port-management company run by a Chinese billionaire. That company also spent $1.4 million lobbying the State Department and Congress from 2012 to 2015.

RUSSIA IS PREPARING FOR A NUCLEAR WAR WITH THE UNITED STATES

by MICHAEL SNYDER

In Russia there is talk that war with the United States is inevitable, and they are feverishly preparing to win such a war when it happens.

Thanks to tensions over Ukraine, Syria and the price of oil, U.S. relations with Russia are the worst that they have been since at least the end of the Cold War. In fact, one false move could result in U.S. and Russian forces shooting at each other in Syria as you will see below.

The Russians have worked incredibly hard to upgrade and modernize their military in recent years, but meanwhile the U.S. military is being transformed into a radically politically-correct social experiment by the Obama administration. Most Americans simply assume that we will never fight a war with Russia, and that if for some reason we did that we would win easily. Unfortunately, things have changed dramatically over the past decade, and the truth is that the Russians now have the upper hand.

Most Americans are accustomed to thinking that we have such an overwhelming strategic nuclear arsenal that nobody would ever dare mess with us. At one time that was true, but now it isn't. In fact, the size of the U.S. strategic nuclear arsenal has been reduced by more than 95 percent since the end of the Cold War, and now the Russians actually have more deployed nuclear warheads than we do. The following comes from the Daily Beast:

While the U.S. military has been steadily cutting the number of nukes it loads on submarines and bombers and in missile silos, Russian forces have recently been adding more.

Seemingly more worrying for the United States, Russia's 1,796 deployed warheads exceed—by a whopping 246 weapons—the cap of 1,550 deployed nuclear weapons that Moscow and Washington agreed to as part of the 2011 New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

The United States, meanwhile, is already well below the New START cap. America's missile submarines, nuclear-capable heavy bombers, and land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles are armed with just 1,367 warheads, the State Department says.

But it isn't just the number of warheads that we need to be concerned about. The Russians have developed a brand-new intercontinental ballistic missile known as "the Sarmat" that is far more advanced than anything the U.S. currently has deployed.

The Sarmat will weigh at least 100-tons and carry a 10-ton payload. That means the missile could carry as many as 15 independently targeted thermo-nuclear warheads. It has a range of at least 6,000 miles. Once it is operational, it will be the largest ICBM ever built.

Like other modern Russian ICBMs such as the Yars, Topol-M and the Bulava, the Sarmat is being designed specifically to overcome ballistic missile defenses using a combination of decoys, a host of countermeasures and sheer speed. It might also be equipped with maneuvering warheads—which would make it much more difficult to intercept.

We have no way to stop the Sarmat, so once it is launched, we are defenseless against it.

And each missile carries 15 independently targeted warheads, and so that means that for each missile that goes up, 15 warheads come down. Every one of those warheads can be directed to a different city, and so one Sarmat missile could essentially destroy an area approximately the size of Texas.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military continues to use hopelessly outdated technology. 60 Minutes has shown that many of our nuclear silos are still using rotary phones and the kind of 8-inch floppy disks that you can hold in your hand and actually flop around. And the Obama administration plans to keep Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missiles that were originally deployed in the 1960s and 1970s in service until 2030.

Of even greater concern than the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile are the "black hole submarines" that Russia has developed. These stealth submarines are so quiet and so invisible that they can come right up to our coastlines without us even knowing that they are there.

So someday a fleet of Russian submarines may suddenly surface just off both coasts, launch a barrage of nuclear missiles at us, and we would only have moments to try to decide what to do before our cities, our nuclear forces and our leadership started getting hit by nukes.

And guess what? The Russians have now developed even newer submarines that are even quieter and stealthier than the subs that the U.S. Navy referred to as "black holes."

"The stealth capabilities of Russia's new Lada-class diesel-electric submarines far exceed those of their predecessors, Admiraty Shipyard's CEO Alexander Buzakov told the Russian press.

"According to Buzakov, the new vessels are even stealthier than Russian Kilo-class submarines, thought to be one of the quietest diesel-electric submarine classes in the world and dubbed "black holes" for their ability to "disappear" from sonars.

"The new submarines are able to maintain such a low profile thanks to a clever implementation of a next-generation anti-reflective acoustic coating and a new improved hydro-acoustic system, Buzakov said.

In a surprise attack scenario, the U.S. may be able to get some missiles off at the Russians, but the Russians also have the most advanced anti-ballistic missile systems in the entire world. In fact, it is believed that the S-500 system will be able to intercept any of our missiles before they even get to Russia. The following info about the S-500 comes from military-today.com.

The S-500 is not an upgrade of the S-400, but a new design. It uses a lot of new technology and is superior to the S-400. It was designed to intercept ballistic missiles. It is planned to have a range of 500-600 km and hit targets at altitudes as high as 40 km. Some sources claim that this system is capable of tracking 5-20 ballistic targets and intercepting up to 5-10 ballistic targets simultaneously. It can defeat ballistic missiles traveling at 5-7 kilometers per second. It has been reported that this air defense system can also target low orbital satellites. It is planned that the S-500 will shield Moscow and the regions around it. It will replace the current A-135 anti-ballistic missile system. The S-500 missiles will be used only against the most important targets, such as intercontinental ballistic missiles, AWACS and jamming aircraft.

And you may have heard that the Russians have been deploying S-300 and S-400 missile systems to Syria. After hearing reports that the Obama administration may conduct direct strikes against Syrian military positions, the Russians responded by reminding the U.S. that the S-300 and S-400 systems will be used against any targets that attack areas controlled by the Syrian government. The following comes from RT:

Russia's Defense Ministry has cautioned the US-led coalition of carrying out airstrikes on Syrian army positions, adding in Syria there are numerous S-300 and S-400 air defense systems up and running.

Russia currently has S-400 and S-300 air-defense systems deployed to protect its troops stationed at the Tartus naval supply base and the Khmeimim airbase. The radius of the weapons reach may be "a surprise" to all unidentified flying objects, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson General Igor Konashenkov said.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, any airstrike or missile hitting targets in territory controlled by the Syrian government would put Russian personnel in danger.

And the official Russian embassy account on Twitter has issued an ominous warning as well.

All jokes aside, Russia will take every defensive measure necessary to protect its personnel stationed in Syria from terrorist threat.

So what would happen if U.S. military aircraft started getting shot down by the Russians in Syria?

I don't know the answer to that question, and let's hope we don't find out.

Another thing that has raised a lot of eyebrows is a massive "civil defense drill" in Russia that just concluded that involved 40 million people. Many believe that the primary purpose of this drill was to prepare the population for a nuclear war. The following comes from a major British news source:

The huge four-day "civil defence" drill has set alarm bells ringing in Washington and London, with tensions already high over disagreements in Syria.

Following a breakdown in communication between the USA and Russia, the Kremlin has now organised the huge emergency practice drill – either as a show of force or something more sinister.

The drill will prepare Russian citizens for "large natural and man-made disasters", according to the country's Ministery for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disaster.

The ministry revealed 40 million civilians, 200,000 emergency rescuers and 50,000 units of equipment are involved in the war game, which is running from October 4 to October 7.

Most Americans don't realize this, but there are hundreds and hundreds of nuclear bomb shelters in Moscow alone. If a nuclear war were to start, Russian citizens are going to have somewhere to go.

Meanwhile, here in the United States no provision has been made for the general population. When the missiles start falling, the only thing that will be left for us to do will be to kiss ourselves goodbye.

It seems like our relationship with Russia gets worse with each passing week. This week, the Obama administration officially accused the Russians of hacking into the DNC and interfering in our elections.

After months of speculation whether the US would officially accuse Russia of being responsible for various intrusions and hacks, primarily involving the Democratic party, moments ago we finally got the long-anticipated confirmation when the US named Russia as the actor behind the hacking attempts on political organizations and, more importantly, state election systems and accused Putin of carrying out a wide-ranging campaign to interfere with the 2016 elections, including by hacking the computers of the Democratic National Committee and other political officials.

In a statement, the US "intelligence community" said that it is "confident" that the Russian government "directed the recent compromises of emails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organisations", the Department of Homeland Security and Director of National Intelligence on Election Security said in a joint statement.

The US added that "these thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process".

Over in Russia, they are very upset with us as well.

The Russians believe that the U.S. was responsible for the overthrow of the democratically-elected government in Ukraine, they believe that the U.S. helped start the civil war in Syria while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State (and this is true), and they believe that the U.S. pushed the price of oil way down in order to hurt the Russian economy.

And it isn't just the Russian leadership that is very angry with the United States. According to Gallup, American leadership has a 1 percent approval rating in Russia at this point.

If you listen to Russian media, there is constant talk of war. The Russians consider the U.S. to be the great force for evil in the world, and they consider themselves to be the great force for good in the world. And there seems to be this overwhelming belief that an ultimate confrontation between good and evil is inevitable. Just consider the following excerpt from an article written by leading Russian thinker Alexander Dugin titled "Third World War Has Never Been So Close."

The globalist US leadership obviously cannot rule the whole world and, what's more, the threat posed by Trump puts their control over America itself into question. Now, while the puppet Barack Obama is still in office and the globalist candidate Hillary Clinton is falling apart in front of American voters' very eyes, is the last chance to start a war. This would allow them to postpone elections or force Trump, if he were to win, to begin his presidency in catastrophic conditions. Thus, the US neoconservatives and globalists need war. And fast, before it's too late. If Trump gets into the White House when there will be peace, then there will be no such war, at least for the foreseeable future. And this would spell the end of the omnipotence of the maniacal globalist elites.

Thus, everything at this point is very, very serious. NATO's ideologues and the US globalists falling into the abyss need war right now – before the American elections. War against us. Not so much for victory, but for the process itself. This is the only way for them to prolong their dominance and divert the attention of Americans and the whole world from their endless series of failures and crimes. The globalists' game has been revealed. Soon enough, they'll have to step down from power and appear before court. Only war can save their situation.

But what about us? We don't need war. Not now, now tomorrow, never. Never in history have we needed war. But we have constantly fought and, in fact, we have almost never lost. The cost entailed terrible losses and colossal efforts, but we won. And we will always win. If this were not so, then today we wouldn't have such an enormous country free from foreign control.

Sadly, most ordinary Americans aren't paying attention to any of this.

Most ordinary Americans still think that the Russians are "our friends" and that there is not even the slightest possibility that we could go to war with them.

Let us certainly hope that war with Russia does not happen anytime soon, because there is a very good chance that we would not wind up on the winning side

WHEN NATIONAL ANTHEM SOUNDS, PLAYER WALKS TO CENTER OF FIELD THEN PARENTS SEE WHAT'S IN HIS HAND

Mechanicville High School Red Raiders football team always travels to games with their own American flag. They never knew what great use would come of it until they arrived at the Catholic Central High School football stadium where they realized the stadium didn’t have an American flag for the National Anthem.

Daniel Hayner, a lineman for the Red Raiders, was shocked that they didn’t have a flag and thought it was disrespectful.

This is when he realized it was time to put the flag they traveled with to good use.

“All the stuff that’s happening now with the flag and stuff…I didn’t know if it was like that or where it was.” Hayner explained. “I went over and stood at the end of our line (with the flag) and they were like, ‘No, stand in the middle of the field.’ so I went out in the middle of the field and stood there.”

The Catholic Central High School had just had some work done on their press box and forgot to hang the flag back up for the game. The principal of the school released this statement.

“The school did not have a flag prepared in a timely manner. As a principal I take full responsibility for that and we apologize if anyone was offended.”

The athletic director for the Red Raiders, Robert Young, said this about Hayner: “It was just a spontaneous action from a boy from a small town that just had basically a notion that when you come from a community like this and the things that we try to instill upon them that there’s family, there’s community and our nation, and our country, and that really means a lot to him.”

“People die to protect their country and for the flag,” Hayner said “People are disrespecting it all the time. It needs respect for the people who served the country and respect it.”

With so much happening regarding saluting our flag and people upset with the disrespect of the flag, Hayner has been seen as hope for the next generation.

GOP INTRODUCES BILL TO REPEAL JOHNSON AMENDMENT

By DUSTIN SIGGINS
From left, Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr., senior pastor at Hope Christian Church, Christiana Holcomb, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, and Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, spoke at a press conference on Sept. 28, 2016.
Since 1954, the Johnson Amendment has limited the free speech of churches and other non-profits. Now, a Georgia Congressman and the third-ranking Republican in the House want to restore that liberty.

“I have been involved in this battle for close to 10 years as a pastor,” GOP Rep. Jody Hice told reporters on Wednesday. “When government acts as a gatekeeper of free speech and what free speech ought to be, then it has abridged our free speech rights.”

Speaking at a press conference to announce the introduction of H.R. 6198, the Free Speech Fairness Act of 2016 (FSFA), he was joined by Republican Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) attorney Christiana Holcomb, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins and evangelical leader Bishop Harry Jackson.
An Accidental Restriction

The bill would overturn the Johnson Amendment’s restriction on the ability of non-profits (as defined under section 501(c)3 of the tax code) to endorse candidates. The Amendment was introduced by then-senator Lyndon Johnson, who wanted to silence corporate opponents. The law ended up accidentally covering churches because it applies to all c3 non-profits. (See this article for a more detailed description of the origin of the restriction.)

ADF has long fought the restrictions in the Johnson Amendment, organizing since 2008 Pulpit Freedom Sunday. The group encourages pastors to speak politically from the pulpit on that day, in order to force the IRS to uphold the Amendment and thus lead to a lawsuit to overturn the law.

So far, said Holcomb, the IRS “has refused to take the bait.” She accused the agency of using “intimidation tactics” against churches, a common refrain from the five speakers. A prominent example of that alleged intimidation is the Obama administration creation in 2012 of “a unit which investigates church violations.” Holcomb said the IRS has admitted it is currently examining 99 churches that may have broken the law, but the agency has been unwilling to name the churches to the public, including to the churches themselves.

The group that sued the IRS and led to the creation of the IRS unit is the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Attorney Sam Grover told The Stream that while he hadn’t seen the bill, the “proposition” of allowing churches “to maintain all the tax-exempt benefits that churches currently enjoy while allowing them to fully endorse specific political candidates for office …. is frighteningly reckless.”

“[C]hurches are essentially black boxes when it comes to financial transparency,” said Grover. “Most churches don’t file any tax information with the IRS. This bill would either invite government oversight of church finances, which would come with a host of free exercise issues, or it would allow churches to engage in unlimited, unrestricted campaigning for political candidates, which would further undermine our political process.”

He concluded that the bill “would turn churches into tax exempt political machines that accept tax deductible donations and funnel money to political campaigns with no government oversight.”

Perkins disagreed. Asked about what limits FSFA would leave in place, Perkins told The Stream the bill “restores the free speech rights of non-profits. It does not allow non-profits to become political operatives or fronts for political operations. If [the speech] is in the scope of your normal activities, that’s fine. You can make a statement, you can make an endorsement.” The bill would not allow non-profits to “turn tax-exempt money into political funds.”

Holcomb agreed with Perkins, telling The Stream, “the bill simply provides a valve for free speech while maintaining the stability of the nonprofit sector and leaving in place, for example, campaign finance laws.”
Everyone Gets Targetted, Even Liberals

While the IRS was heavily criticized by all the speakers for targeting conservatives — under former IRS agent Lois Lerner, Tea Party and socially conservative groups were targeted because of their politics — Jackson noted that liberals have also been pressured for political speech. The NAACP was investigated when its former president Julian Bond criticized then-President George W. Bush. Likewise, a church was investigated for a pastor’s criticisms of the Iraq War.

“I defended the pastor in California who spoke against George W. Bush,” Perkins told The Stream. “That’s within the normal course of his business.”

The Stream also asked Hice and Scalise why the bill is being introduced with just weeks before a new Congress is sworn into office. With a Democratic filibuster in the Senate and a Democrat in the White House, odds of passage are slim.

“We did want to lay down a marker as this presidential election is really getting kicked into full swing,” explained Scalise. “We’d like this to be part of the political discourse” as voters consider their votes in November. “The country can ask this question: Will the next president support legislation like this to restore religious freedom?”

The presidential election has jump-started what was largely a dormant conversation on the Johnson Amendment. As The Stream Executive Editor Jay Richards noted in an interview with One America News, repeal is in the Republican Party’s official platform for the first time, and GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s declaration that he will repeal it has excited social conservatives.
