Simone Manuel Makes History In Swimming At Rio Olympics |
"All I can say is all glory to God. It's definitely been a long journey these past four years. I'm just so blessed to have a gold medal ... I'm just so blessed," Manuel sobbed after her victory.
Manuel is the first African-American to take gold in an individual swimming competition—ever. She tied with Canada's Penny Oleksiak for a record-breaking time of 52.70 seconds in the women's 100-meter freestyle.
Thus far in Rio, Manuel has one gold and one silver medal.
"It is an honor to represent the USA! God is working in me! I am so blessed and grateful. Thank you all so much for your support," Manuel tweeted after her historic win.
Amen to that!
